Science Week at the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown
This November, the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown hosted a day of events for local primary school pupils as well as the wider community as part of National Science week, which aims to stimulate an interest in Science and Engineering.

Since it opened in 1999, ITB has been involved in many local initiatives to promote education and science in our region, including taster programs for secondary schools and the annual robotics summer school for local primary school children.

The staff at the School of Informatics and Engineering at ITB has put together a wide range of events for Science Week including programmes on digital media, robotics, design your own garden at the horticulture stand, willow sculpture and various displays. ITB has worked closely with partners such as the Salesian College of Horticultural in Warrenstown and the National Botanic Gardens to include such diverse topics from horticulture to digital photography.

One of the highlights of Science Week this year was a flexible presentation called 'science2life. This show makes a conscious effort to apply knowledge, principles and values to more than one academic discipline but uses science as a central theme. Mathematics, music, drama, language, design and technology, history, home economics and ICT are some of the subjects used to help bring 'Science2Life'.

Over 600 children from 20 primary schools attended Science Week events at ITB. ITB also hosted a very successful talk at the Blanchardstown Library on Digital Photography.
